Editions

  • prologue, table, and explanation were printed by Iohannes Noviomagus in Bedae opuscula complura de temporum ratione (Cologne 1537) and reprinted among other matter by J. Herwagen in 1563, and from there in PL 90
  • according to Van der Vyver, 150, Abbo’s text is found at col. 727–42, 749–58, 787–820, 212–30 (sic), 823–6, 859–78, 855–8
  • two of these passages, PL 90. 823–6, 857–8, are also reprinted as Abbo’s work, PL 139. 573–7, 577–8
  • the first of these, ‘Dionysius abbas genere Romanus paschales circulos mira breuitate composuit’, being the prologue to Abbo’s edition of the Dionysian cycle, is also printed from Berlin MS lat. 138, fol. Four related manuscripts from England have a different prologue, ‘Quoniam breuitatem semper obscuritas comitatur’, which marks the beginning of the text in the Berlin manuscript copied for Abbo himself; this contains a date-indication 978, while ‘Quadratus hic equilaterus’ points to the date 982, leading Van der Vyver, 150–54, to suggest that Abbo revised the work between those dates.
